Chocolate Doughnuts

Donuts are one of my favorite desserts. This specific recipe for chocolate doughnuts reminds me of a cake-like texture. They are flavorful, soft and so much better than any other baked doughnuts I have tried.

These chocolate doughnuts are generously glazed and baked not fried. You might be thinking, what is the difference between fried and baked, the difference is that the baked ones are fluffier and moister, while also being a lot tastier and healthier.

Instructions on making chocolate doughnuts:

Ingredients:

For the doughnuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  •  1/2 cup granulated sugar
  •  1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  •  1/3 cup milk
  •  1/4 cup yogurt
  •  1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  •  1/2 tsp baking powder
  •  1/2 tsp baking soda
  •  1/8 tsp salt
  •  2 tbsp melted unsalted butter
  •  1 egg

For the glaze:

  •  2 tbsp unsalted butter
  •  1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate chips
  •  3 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions:

Start by greasing a baking doughnut pan with butter or oil, and preheat the oven to 350° F.

First, we are gonna need to make the doughnuts, we’ll do that by whisking the dry ingredients together ( baking powder, cocoa powder, baking soda, flour, and salt) in a large bowl.

In a medium-sized bowl mix the sugar and egg, until well combined. Then add the yogurt, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter and mix until thoroughly combined. Then mix both mixtures together, until the batter thickens.

Using a spoon fill each doughnut pan spot with the batter about 3/4 full. Or another much easier option is to use a piping bag, just cut a hole at the bottom of the bag, and it’s ready to use.

After filling up the doughnut pan, put it in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until you insert a toothpick in the center of the doughnut and it comes out clean. Then allow the doughnuts to cool on a cooling rack for about 5 minutes before pouring the glaze.

For the glaze:

To make the chocolate ganache, put the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter in a small bowl and microwave it in 30-second increments, making sure to stir in between. When the glaze is finished, dip the tops of the donuts into the chocolate glaze, and place them on a wire rack. You can now sprinkle the top of the doughnuts with sprinkles and enjoy!
