How to make a classic homemade lasagna:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 16 oz box lasagna pasta (use about 15 noodles)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 chopped medium onion
- 3 minced cloves of garlic
- 16 oz cottage cheese, or ricotta cheese
- 24 oz grated mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 15 oz can water, use the tomato sauce can
- 1 12 oz can tomato paste
- 2 15 oz cans tomato sauce
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Start by preheating the oven to 350° F.
Then add olive oil and soften the garlic and onion in a large pan over medium heat, this should take about 4 minutes.
After the garlic and onion are done sautéing add the ground beef and let it brown, after it’s done browning add the tomato paste, tomato sauce water, basil, oregano salt, and pepper. Reduce heat down to low, cover the pan and cook for about 25 minutes stirring often.
Place lasagna noodles into the bottom of a pan. Pour hot tap water over the noodles, making sure the pasta is completely immersed in the water. Let them soak for 30 minutes, then rinse and set aside.
Lightly spray a baking dish that the pasta fits in and spread a small amount of the meat sauce at the bottom of the dish then add the lasagna noodles.
After that, spread 1/2 of the cottage cheese on top of the lasagna noodles, then on top of cottage cheese add 1/3 of the meat sauce, next add 1/2 of parmesan cheese and finally sprinkle 1/3 of mozzarella cheese, repeat these steps until you use all of your ingredients.
Cover the top of the baking dish with cooking foil and cook for approximately 1 hour, after an hour has passed take the foil off and put the lasagna back in the oven for 10 more minutes to allow the cheese to brown.
