Flour Tortillas

If you are looking for the fastest, easiest, and tastiest flour tortillas then you’ve come to the right place. These flour tortillas are chewy, soft, flavorful, tender, and only require 5 ingredients.

Tortillas mostly accompany Mexican dishes. They’re perfect for burritos, sandwiches, wraps, casseroles, fajitas, and stews but the possibilities are endless.

Here’s all you need to make flour tortillas:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 5 tablespoons lard or vegetable shortening

In a large-sized bowl add the flour, salt, baking powder, and shortening. Using a pastry cutter cut in the shortening until it resembles the size of a pea. Pour in the hot water and mix together using your hands or stir briskly with a fork until the mixtures starts to form. After the dough has formed knead it on a floured surface for 5 to 10 minutes or until the mixture starts to get smooth and stretchy.

Now form the dough into a ball and place it into a covered bowl where you let it rest for at least 10 minutes. After letting it rest, pinch off the dough into 12 equal pieces. Then heat a large pan over medium heat and on a lightly floured surface, flatten the ball and use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a circle(add more flour if needed to prevent the dough from getting too sticky).

In the preheated skillet cook tortillas over medium heat for approximately 30 to 45 seconds on each side or until you see some light brown spots, and the tortilla is bubbly. Wrap the tortillas in a clean cloth or paper towels when it comes off the pan. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
