Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Homemade buttermilk biscuits are easy to make and are good for beginning cooks. These biscuits are fluffy, soft, buttery, and thick from a recipe that only requires 6 ingredients and is made from scratch.

The reason why this recipe is so easy to prepare is that you don’t need to roll out any dough or use a biscuit cutter. The top of the biscuits gets a golden brown color in the oven and that’s why they are so crispy and delicious.

Here’s all you need to know on how to make buttermilk biscuits:

  • 1 stick salted butter (1/2 cup)
  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder

Start by preheating the oven to 450 F°. Then melt the stick of butter in the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl. In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and sugar.) Then pour in the buttermilk into the mix.

Stir with a wooden spoon until a loose dough forms. After that pour the melted butter into a baking dish and add the dough on top of the melted butter. Cut the dough into your preferable size for biscuits and put the baking dish in the oven.

Bake for approximately 20 to 25 mins rotating the baking dish once. If you aren’t sure if the biscuits are finished you can tell by seeing the color on top of the dish, if the biscuits are golden brown they are done.
