Instructions on making the flakiest butter pie crust:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- 9 tbsp ice water
- 1 tsp salt
In a large bowl, combine the flour, butter, and salt. Then using a fork, cut in the cold butter until the small lumps resemble pea-sized crumbs.
After that, start adding 1 tbsp of the ice water to the mixture until the mixture forms a ball. When the mixture starts to form large clumps, stop adding water.
Then on a lightly floured surface, place the dough and divide it into 2 equal halves. Form the 2 halves into balls and roll them into discs. After doing that, using plastic wrap, wrap the 2 discs refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
After that, take the dough out of the refrigerator for at least 5 minutes to let it rest before making the pie crust. Then on a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to fit a 9-inch pie plate.
To bake the pie crust, preheat the oven to 375 °F, and bake it for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
