Homemade Flaky Sausage Rolls

If you are looking for a fun and easy appetizer, then this recipe is perfect for you. With this recipe, you’ll end up with sausage rolls that are extremely meaty, savory, and full of tasty spices.

Once you try one, you can’t stop eating them, so it’s better to make more. Basically, sausage rolls are buttery pastries cooked to golden perfection, which is the reason, they are so flaky, crispy, and delicious.

Instructions on making the flakiest sausage rolls:


  • 2 rolls all-butter puff pastry 
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 800 g pure pork sausages
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp dried bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tsp fresh sage (diced)
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 1 egg (beaten)


Start by preheating the oven to 400 °F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Then in a medium-sized bowl, mix the sausage, bread crumbs, and herbs. After that, add the water to the mixture, and using your hands, mix all the ingredients. After the water has absorbed into the mixture, form the mixture into 8 equal pieces.

Then using a sharp knife, cut the puff pastry into 4 pieces, which are around 5×5-inches. Brush the center of the pastry with Dijon mustard, and put an eighth of the sausage mixture on top of the mustard. Then brush the left side of the pastry with the beaten egg and tightly roll the pastry around the sausage meat. Place the sausage roll on the prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with every sausage roll.

Once you’ve finished preparing the sausage roll, brush their tops with the egg wash and bake in the oven for approximately 30 minutes, or until the sausage rolls are golden-brown.

Serve warm with additional Dijon mustard if desired and enjoy!
