Barbecue sauce is just as necessary as ketchup. While there are thousands of different types and brands of barbecue sauce available in-store, homemade barbecue sauce takes little time or effort to make!
This honey garlic barbecue sauce uses common pantry ingredients and is a great way to spice up chicken, pork, or any of your barbecue favorites. If you’re running low on store-bought barbecue sauce, give this a try instead, it’s much better and it takes only 15 minutes to make.
Guide On Making The Tastiest Homemade Honey Garlic Barbecue Sauce:
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup (preferably low-sodium, low-sugar ketchup)
- 4 cloves garlic (pressed or finely minced)
- 1/3 cup liquid honey or other vegan substitute
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 3 tbsp molasses
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp red wine vinegar
- a dash of hot sauce
- a dash of finely ground black pepper
Start by combining all the ingredients in a pot and cook over medium-low heat.
Next, whisk everything thoroughly to mix all the ingredients together, then continue to whisk the mixture frequently (but not very vigorously) until the mixture gets hotter and starts to bubble.
Now, when the mixture has reached a hard boil, turn down the heat to a simmer (low) and continue to whisk until the sauce is thick, glossy, and dark (it will darken and thicken when it is cooked and decreases).
After that, once the sugar granules have dissolved and your sauce has become dense, glossy, and dark, remove it from the heat and transfer it into an oven-safe glass container or jar.
Finally, cool the sauce at room temperature before placing it in the refrigerator and before putting it on your favorite barbecued meats.
