These Greek chicken gyros are packed full of fresh herbs and topped with creamy tzatziki sauce and crunchy vegetables. They are a fun twist to traditional gyros. How To Make The Tastiest Greek Chicken Gyros:
For The Gyros:
- 6-8 pita flatbreads
- 2 lbs. chicken tenderloins
- 2 cups shredded romaine
- 2 cups cherry tomatoes (quartered)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 red onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
For The Tzatziki Sauce:
- 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup grated English cucumber, squeezed dry
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh dill
- 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tsp lemon zest
- Kosher salt
- freshly ground black pepper
Start by making the tzatziki sauce. In order to do that, in a small bowl combine the Greek yogurt, dill, cucumber, lemon zest, lemon juice, and garlic and season with salt and pepper, according to your taste.
Then, set the sauce aside in the refrigerator to cool until it’s ready to serve.
Next, in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag, combine the chicken, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, oregano, thyme, paprika, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp pepper.
Marinate the chicken for approximately 2 hours, while turning the bag every once in a while.
Once at least 2 hours have passed, drain the chicken from the marinade, discarding the marinade.
After marinating the chicken, preheat the grill to medium heat.
Then, add the marinated chicken to the grill, and cook it, while still turning it occasionally.
Cook until the chicken has been completely cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, which should take approximately 8 minutes.
Finally, once you’ve finished grilling the chicken, warm the pitas on the grill for approximately 2 minutes on each side.
Then halve the pitas, and fill with the grilled marinated chicken, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and tzatziki sauce.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
