How To Make The Tastiest Chicken Flautas:
- 12-14 medium flour tortillas (7-8-inch)
- 3 cups shredded cooked chicken
- 1 cup freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup freshly shredded Monterrey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup salsa
- 4 oz. can mild chopped green chiles
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Cayenne pepper (or hot sauce to taste)
- vegetable oil
Start by adding the salsa, green chilies, sour, cream, chili powder, garlic powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, onion powder, dried oregano, and salt to a large bowl. Then add the chicken and then the cheese.
Next, if you’d like your chicken Flautas to be extra spicy add the Cayenne pepper or hot sauce to your desired taste.
Now, it’s recommended that you stack half of them and microwave them for a minute so that they are easier to roll. Feel free to skip this step if you are using homemade tortillas or ones of a higher quality.
After you’ve finished microwaving the tortillas, place them onto a flat surface. Spread approximately 3 tablespoons (or a large spoonful) of the chicken mixture onto a tortilla. Then roll up tightly and place seam side down. Repeat this process with the remaining tortillas.
If you decide to shallow fry the tortillas, preheat the oven to 200 °F and set a wire baking rack in a baking pan. After that, heat 1 cup of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once the vegetable oil reaches a temperature of 325 °F, place the Flautas seam side down on the skillet.
Fry the Flautas for approximately 3-4 minutes, turning them as needed. Once the Flautas have a golden brown color, place them on paper towels to drain.
Once the Flautas have drained transfer them onto the prepared baking pan in order to keep them warm while you finish the rest of the Flautas.
Finally, serve warm with some shredded lettuce, crema, tomatoes, avocado, or any other of your favorite toppings.
