This is one of my favorite ways to make tofu, it retains as much flavor as possible without all the added liquid. I personally think this is the best way to make tofu. Not only is this tofu quick and easy to make, but it’s also incredibly crispy and has a beautiful golden brown color.
Guide on making the crispiest baked tofu recipe:
- 1 block extra-firm tofu (14 oz.)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbso cornstarch
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Start by draining the tofu. In order to do that you need to start by slicing the tofu into cubes. To get the water out of the tofu place it inbetween two cutting boards.
Next, place some paper towels on top and bottom of the tofu.
Now, add a cutting board on the top and bottom of the tofu. Then add some weight (stack some pans, heavy cans, books, or whatever you can find to finish the job) onto the top cutting board so that it applies pressure to the tofu.
Let the cutting board sit on the tofu for at least 10 minutes (if you aren’t in a rush, it’s preferred to let it sit for about 30 minutes.)
While the tofu is draining, preheat your oven to 400 °F.
Once the tofu has drained, cut it into your preferred shapes and sizes.
Add the tofu to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss it around in the bowl so that it coats evenly. Then add the cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Again, toss the tofu around the bowl so that it coats evenly.
After that, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, add the tofu to the baking sheet, leaving a bit of space in between every piece, so they don’t touch.
Finally, bake the tofu for 15 minutes. Then flip the tofu pieces on the other side and cook the for an additional 15 minutes.
Once the tofu pieces have a beautiful golden brown color, take them out of the oven. For extra crispiness, broil the tofu for an additional minute minutes before taking them out from the oven.
